PONTIAN:
Former prime minister Najib Razak has denied a news report that Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election, Wee Jeck Seng, is against Jawi writing.

He claimed that the allegation was a “desperate” attempt made by the Pakatan Harapan.

“I have already checked with Wee and he denies that media report,” Najib said at the “Unity of the Ummah” gathering at Kampung Sawah, Pekan Nanas, tonight.

Najib urged voters not to be misled by such wrong news reports.

“Wee said khat (Jawi writing) is the same as any other calligraphy. It is up to Chinese schools whether they want to introduce khat.”
