One spoon of palm oil a day not enough, take a bottle, BN MPs mock Kok

They ask Teresa Kok to lead the way by consuming a bottle of raw palm oil everyday to boost the commodity's sales.

Opposition MPs say growth in palm oil sales will be negligible even if everyone consumes one spoon of palm oil a day.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Barisan Nasional MPs today mocked Teresa Kok after the primary industries minister said she takes one spoon of palm oil everyday for health.

Instead, they urged her to take one bottle of raw palm oil a day to boost sales of the commodity.

This was after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (BN-Bagan Datuk) said palm oil sales would gain by only 0.005% if everyone drinks one spoon of palm oil.

Zahid said Kok should “lead by example” and drink one bottle of palm oil everyday, to which Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) agreed.

“We’ll follow. If the minister does it, we’ll follow. Perhaps it can give us energy. We need to be healthy,” said Bung, adding that Malaysians could drink one cup of palm oil everyday as a juice.

Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) then waded into the conversation, and asked Kok to explain the benefits of drinking raw palm oil.

“We will only follow if we can be like Superman.”

Bung said the health ministry should clarify on the safety aspects of consuming raw palm oil.

“If there are dangers, then it is dangerous,” he added.

Kok had in April urged MPs to consume red palm oil, saying it could help them stay young.

She had said that based on studies, red palm oil is rich in Vitamin E, saturated fatty acids and 20 types of carotenoids.

“Red palm oil is also an anti-oxidant and has no trans fat. What the prime minister said recently (to take a spoonful of palm oil) is very clear. If we do so, we will be healthier and stronger, ” Kok had told Dewan Rakyat.
