At a press conference here today, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said he received a video recording late last night showing the prepaid cards being distributed to those who attended the ceramah.
“I am disappointed that these individuals were doing it even with the presence of EC (Election Commission) observers and police. The host was saying in the video that the SIM cards were free and those who at the ceramah could sign for them.
“It seems that they are challenging the authorities,” he said.
Wee also posted three images on his Facebook page showing several individuals registering for the prepaid cards.
He said it was not the first time that PH was trying to fish for votes as several ministers had announced allocations totalling more than RM28 million for projects in Tanjung Piai.
“Some of the ministers said it is their right to announce the allocations for the people. This is disgusting,” he said.
He said MCA would bring up the issue of the prepaid cards with the EC and police.
“If they want to challenge us to show more evidence, we have the longer version of the video recording,” he said.
The Ayer Hitam MP also hoped that electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 would be more vocal against any breach of election rules.
“They were in very high spirits back then (previous by-elections) and I hope they feel the same now,” he said, adding that Bersih had come out with only two statements so far on Tanjung Piai.
Present at the press conference was BN’s candidate in the by-election, Wee Jeck Seng.
