No more police outriders for Najib?

The decision is conveyed in a letter from Bukit Aman to the former prime minister's special aide.

As a former prime minister, Najib Razak is provided police outriders for his protection.
PETALING JAYA:
Police say there will no longer be outriders to accompany former prime minister Najib Razak, in a decision seen as reminiscent of the previous administration’s withdrawal of outriders for Dr Mahathir Mohamad two years ago.

The decision was conveyed by Bukit Aman’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department in a letter to Najib’s special officer, Mohd Shahrir Mohd Aripin.

The letter, sighted by FMT, however, did not state any reason for terminating the service.

FMT is contacting Bukit Aman and the home ministry for clarification.

In April 2016, police outriders for Mahathir were withdrawn, about two months after he quit Umno at the height of his fallout with Najib over the 1MDB saga.

In November 2017, it was reported that police had withdrawn the personal bodyguard service provided by the Special Action Unit (UTK) for Mahathir. The claim was refuted by then police chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
