Ex-minister put on the spot over state assembly seat

Parti Sarawak Bersatu president who left the state Cabinet in July is seated next to backbenchers of the ruling coalition.

Parti Sarawak Bersatu president Wong Soon Koh says PSB is neither a GPS component party or a GPS-friendly party.
KUCHING:
Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Wong Soon Koh, who resigned from the state Cabinet in July, reiterated today that PSB is not affiliated with any party here or in the peninsula.

Although he said he is now seated next to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) backbenchers in the state assembly – and not among the opposition members – PSB is neither a GPS component party or a GPS-friendly party.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman is seated between n PBB’s Pakan assemblyman William Mawan Ikom and Mulu assemblyman Gerawat Gala.

The seating arrangement for the other three PSB assemblymen – Ranum Mina (Opar), Johnical Rayong (Engkelili) and Tiong Thai King (Dudong) – remains the same.

“Although we are seated among GPS members, we do not want this to be construed that we are still part of GPS as we have already left the state government,” Wong told reporters.

He said he had raised the matter with the speaker.

However, Wong said it was not a major problem so long as he had a place to sit.

“Where we are seated doesn’t matter but I want to clarify that this does not mean we have any affiliation with GPS.”

According to him, PSB is an independent party fighting for the interest and rights of Sarawak and the well-being of all Sarawakians irrespective of race, religion and culture.
