He says a study on implementing the PH manifesto promise is in the final phase.

Pakatan Harapan has promised free higher education in its election manifesto.
PETALING JAYA:
Education Minister Maszlee Malik has pledged to fulfil Pakatan Harapan’s promise of providing free tertiary education before the end of its mandate, saying a mechanism is being worked out to study its implementation.

Maszlee said his ministry is in the final stage of a study on cutting down fees charged by public universities.

“Insha Allah, in two to three years, we will ensure the promise can be fulfilled,” he told Dewan Rakyat in a written reply to Salim Sharif (BN-Jempol) on the ruling coalition’s promise of free university education in its election manifesto.

Saying the current priority is to settle various debts, Maszlee said his ministry is looking into the best ways to implement free tertiary education.

Meanwhile, Maszlee informed the Dewan Rakyat that the government’s higher education saving scheme SSPN-i collected RM475.6 million in the first nine months of this year, an increase of about RM75 million from the same period last year.
