2 senior RTM officers held over false claim

The claim is in connection with a TV programme sponsored by the Selangor Tithes Board.

MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya says 11 people have been called to assist in the investigation.
SHAH ALAM:
Two senior Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) officers have been remanded for nine days to help in an investigation into a false claim involving funds from the Selangor Tithes Board (STB).

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the two women, aged 37 and 40, were among three individuals detained on Oct 7.

The other was a 38-year-old company owner, who was released after his statement was taken.

‘’Eleven individuals have been called to help in the investigation, including the two RTM officers and the man.

‘’We hope to complete the investigation in one or two weeks and hand over the investigation papers to the prosecution,’’ Latheefa said.

Bernama learnt that the two RTM officers had submitted a false claim to RTM although STB sponsored the production of a television programme. The man is the husband of one of the officers.

Commenting on the list of 80 individuals and companies issued compound notices over the receipt of funds from 1MDB, Latheefa said none had stepped forward to return the money.

She said those named could go to the MACC office to discuss the payment of the compound or ask for more time.

The individuals include former CIMB Group chairman Nazir Razak.

The compound notices were issued under Section 92(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001), she said.

Earlier, Latheefa attended a programme in conjunction with the 54th anniversary of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and an anti-corruption campaign in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary of MACC at the Section 13 farmers’ market here.
