Suspects in dead elephant case remanded for firearms probe

The six include an illegal immigrant.

TAWAU: The Magistrate’s Court here has remanded six suspects, who were arrested over the killing of a Pygmy elephant near here, for four days.

Magistrate Farene Mohd Ferdaus issued the remand order. The case will be investigated under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960.

The six include a Felda settler, a hired worker and an illegal immigrant.

The killing of the elephant was condemned by Malaysians, with shocking pictures of it’s carcass tied to a tree on a riverbank.
