KUALA LUMPUR:
The National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) has claimed that school principals were forcing teachers to become full-time wardens, burdening them with more work and disrupting their main job as educators.

“I believe no teachers would volunteer to become wardens. They are ‘forced’ to become wardens, only some schools have applied the rotation system since many teachers refuse to become wardens.

“I urge the government to employ wardens not among the teachers,” said NUTP president Aminuddin Awang.

He said the organisation’s proposal for a full-time warden had been rejected by the education ministry.

Aminuddin said the warden plays an important role in boarding schools as teachers have other important tasks.

He called for a special study to be carried out by the ministry to address the problem.
