PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak today said a documentary on the 1MDB scandal is linked to the family of George Soros, after a son of the US financier once blamed for Malaysia’s financial crisis tweeted about his role in the film.
Alex Soros had said in a Twitter post that he was “proud” to be the executive producer of “The Kleptocrats”, which was released last year.
“Alex Soros is also a board member in the Open Society Foundations or the Open Society Institute as it was known previously, and a board member of the Jewish Funds for Justice,” the former prime minister, who is facing multiple charges linked to 1MDB, said on Facebook.
Soros was blamed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the late nineties for the devaluing of the ringgit at the height of the Asian financial crisis.
Both met in 2006, and Mahathir retracted his claim, saying the US philanthropist was not to blame.
