Higher price for Kampung Baru land welcome, says minister

Khalid Abdul Samad says the only condition is that the land stays with the Malays.

Khalid Abdul Samad says the FT ministry will give its full support if the Malaysian Malay Chambers of Commerce wants to buy the Kampung Baru land for RM2,000 per sq ft.
PUTRAJAYA:
The Federal Territories ministry said it has no objection to any party offering a higher price for land in Kampung Baru as long as the condition that the land belongs to the Malays is complied with.

Its minister, Khalid Abdul Samad, said he welcomed the view of Malaysian Malay Chambers of Commerce (MMCC) secretary-general Amirhamzah Karim that the appropriate price for land in Kampung Baru is RM2,000 per sq ft and not RM850 as offered by the ministry.

“I hope the view is the collective outlook of MMCC and based on professional evaluation. I welcome it if the land is bought at RM2,000 per sq ft.

“I am confident that MMCC can get the financial support needed to make the purchase successful, based on the professional evaluation,’’ he said in a statement today.

Khalid said he would ensure that the ministry and the Kampung Baru Development Corporation would give their full cooperation to MMCC if it agreed to buy the land at the price it offered.

He said he was confident that the suggestion by MMCC would receive the full cooperation of the landowners or their next of kin.
