PETALING JAYA: More areas recorded very unhealthy air pollutant index (API) levels of above 200 this morning, including Balik Pulau in Penang, Putrajaya, Petaling Jaya, Klang and Shah Alam as the haze that has shrouded many parts of the country for weeks continues.
As of 7am, Balik Pulau had an API level of 204 compared to 196 an hour earlier.
Putrajaya, Klang and Petaling Jaya recorded API readings of 202 while Shah Alam recorded 219.
Nilai in Negeri Sembilan had an API level of 211 while Balik Pulau had a reading of 204.
An API reading of 0-50 shows good air quality; 51-100, moderate; 101-200, unhealthy; 201-300, very unhealthy and over 300, hazardous.
In Sri Aman, Sarawak, which hovered just below 400 for much of yesterday, the API level decreased to 244 this morning.
Johan Setia in Klang which saw schools close earlier this week due to the unhealthy haze levels recorded an API reading of 253.
