SEREMBAN:
The Negeri Sembilan government has welcomed moves to popularise Jawi script, following the declaration of every Friday as “Use Jawi Writing Day”.

Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said efforts to empower Jawi were noble as they would enable everyone to appreciate the script.

“The Jawi script has been been used by local authorities in the state, especially the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS), where it appears on road signs.

“The script has its advantages and it is one of the beauties of the Malay culture.

“I hope the people can understand and appreciate the script,” he told reporters after flagging off participants of the Run for Peace 2019 organised by the Negeri Sembilan branch of Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) at the MPS field today.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof has declared every Friday a “Use Jawi Writing Day” to encourage the use of the script.

This follows the education ministry’s decision to introduce Jawi script in the Year Four Bahasa Melayu syllabus in vernacular schools next year.
