PETALING JAYA:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy has mooted a pilot project to build affordable homes for Orang Asli that better suit their needs.

He said he was collaborating with the Malaysian Institute of Architects to come up with homes that do not use bricks.

He said it was a fact that the Orang Asli do not believe in living in brick houses and would not stay in modern houses built by the government.

“But we continue to build such brick houses for them.

“There is no point in building such houses for them if they don’t intend on using it,” the minister in charge of national unity and social well-being said after attending a dialogue on interfaith and religious harmony at Universiti Malaya today.

Waytha said the pilot housing project for the Orang Asli may start by the end of the year.
