‘Fake news’ about child kidnapping in Manjung

Police say 'no such thing' after online scare about a syndicate operating in the district.

LUMUT: Police have rejected claims that children have been kidnapped by a syndicate in Manjung district, Perak, after social media postings made the rounds for the past few days.

Manjung district police chief Muhammad Hanif Othman said the alleged kidnappings were untrue.

“There are no such cases happening in Changkat Keruing or in Manjung district,” he said when contacted here today to comment on claims that the public had crippled a kidnapping syndicate said to have been operating in Manjung district.

A posting on Facebook had claimed that members of the public nabbed the suspects after two cars were seen moving suspiciously after abducting a child in the area.

It was also claimed that two cars were stopped while another fled the scene.
