Naza agrees to settle forfeiture suit linked to Chevy purchase

The company previously said the money was for the purchase of 4 Chevrolet cars.

KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Quest Auto Sdn Bhd, one of the companies named by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission as recipients of 1MDB funds, is seeking to settle the anti-graft body’s forfeiture lawsuit against it.

“They sent their letter to us on Tuesday, requesting for a settlement,” deputy public prosecutor Allan Suman Pillai told reporters today.

Allan said the High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali will meet on Aug 23 for case mention.

The government seeks to forfeit RM269,662 from the company, a subsidiary of the Naza Group of Companies.

Naza previously said the money was for the purchase of four Chevrolet cars between December 2012 and 2013.

Meanwhile, High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali said the case involving Yayasan Rahah is also set for mention on Aug 23.

Allan said the prosecution informed the court that it needed time to reply to the foundation’s request for settlement.

“If there is no settlement by Aug 23, we will proceed on the third party notice hearing,” Nazlan added.

The judge will also hear Pekan Umno’s striking out bid on the same day after Allan told the court they need to reply to the division’s submissions.

Last month, MACC filed 41 forfeiture lawsuits against various individuals and organisations over funds allegedly channelled from former prime minister Najib Razak Najib’s bank account.

The government is seeking to recover a total of RM270 million from them.
