It said it was not true that the board had directed Ng to meet with MACC today.
“In the Kojadi board meeting yesterday, there was no resolution for chairman Ng Peng Hay to meet MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya or any (MACC) officials today,” the board of directors said in a statement.
The board of directors also said that the RM15 million grant had “nothing to do” with former prime minister Najib Razak’s accounts.
“Thus, they should not be lumped together.”
Earlier, Ng had said Kojadi received a “financial grant” of RM15 million from Yayasan 1MDB in 2012 to implement a socio-economic micro-credit scheme called Kojadi Micro Credit Scheme for Youths.
In light of the MACC’s announcement of the civil forfeiture list of 41 names last week and that there will be more civil forfeitures against those who had received 1MDB money, Ng said he called for an emergency board meeting yesterday.
He tabled a proposal at the board meeting to return the grant. He claimed the board had directed him to meet with the anti-graft body today to clarify the cooperative’s position and seek its direction and guidance.
“However, before I could secure an appointment with MACC, the president of MCA issued an instruction to all directors of Kojadi through social media to stop this meeting with MACC and to meet with party leaders,” he claimed.
Ng added that he also objected to what he said was “interference” by Wee in the day-to-day management of Kojadi.
Kojaidi’s board of directors, however, said while Wee did relay to the board in writing that he hopes to meet them next week, he had “in no way interfered with day-to-day running of Kojadi”.
It added that Wee’s intention to do so “complies with the outcome of the board meeting”.
“Kojadi has and shall continue to uphold the principle of professional management.
“Whether it is in the past, present or future, let it be known that the entire board abides by a strict code of professionalism, transparency, integrity and lawful operating practices,” it added.
The statement was signed off by Kojadi vice-chairman Hoo Seong Chang, Ng Fook Heng (treasurer), Sri Chow Liong (assistant secretary), Lim Chin Hai (assistant treasurer) and directors Koh Nai Kwong, Ooi Saw Choo, Woon Ching Fatt, Lim Si Cheng, Goh Ah Ling, Toh Chin Yaw and Loke Sim Fatt.
Kojadi said it had informed MACC in writing about the RM15 million grant earlier this year.
In response, the MACC indicated that all 1MDB-related matters are still undergoing investigations.
The cooperative was set up by MCA in 1981 to provide educational loans for students to pursue higher education.
Wanita MCA, Pahang MCA and several Umno chapters are among those named in MACC’s forfeiture suits to return funds allegedly given to them by Najib from 1MDB.
When contacted, Ng told FMT that he was shocked that a statement was issued by the board of directors without his knowledge as chairman.
Ng also said that he had WhatsApp messages between him and Wee where he criticised him and warned the rest of the Kojadi directors.
These messages, he claimed, were also forwarded to the rest of the board members.
“So they can deny everything but all the minutes of yesterday’s meeting spell out clearly what we decided. It’s all in black and white.”
