Shah Alam to get new court complex

De facto law minister Liew Vui Keong says the existing building is inconvenient and plagued with infrastructure-related issues.

De facto law minister Liew Vui Keong says the 19-year-old Shah Alam court complex needs to be replaced.
SHAH ALAM:
The government plans to build a new court complex in Shah Alam to replace the present court building which is plagued with infrastructure-related issues, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong said.

He said the court building, completed in 2000, had limited access to and out of the court rooms.

The building design was not user-friendly, especially for the disabled, and the car park was always congested, the de facto law minister said after a visit to the court complex at Section 4 here today.

“We need land for a new building to overcome these problems and ensure the comfort and safety of judges, lawyers, the authorities and the public,” he said.

Liew said he would be meeting Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari to identify possible sites for the new court complex.

“Perhaps we can negotiate a land swap between the federal and state governments to enable us to acquire the ideal location.

“I will be meeting the menteri besar soon before discussing the allocation needed for the project with the finance ministry,” he said.

Liew said the views of relevant parties including judges and lawyers would be sought to ensure a suitable building was set up.

Also present were Selangor courts director Rozilah Salleh and Federal Court chief registrar Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh.
