“We hope that this will ease some traffic congestion especially the climbing areas,” PLUS chief operating officer, Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said in a statement.
This is not the first time authorities banned heavy vehicles on roads.
In February, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) banned heavy vehicles – weighing 7,500kg and above – including container and timber lorries from using all roads during the Chinese New Year celebration.
Zakaria also advised its customers to have a good rest while driving along its highway by taking intermittent breaks at its Rest & Service Areas (RSA) and laybys.
He also reiterated the importance for motorcyclists to ride safely on their journey back to Kuala Lumpur, as the death toll of motorcyclists on PLUS highways is alarmingly high as compared to other vehicles.
Earlier today, Bernama reported that police recorded 176 deaths and 23,263 vehicles involved in crashes since it launched the Ops Selamat 15 operation on May 29.
Selangor recorded the highest number of accidents at 4,403 followed by Johor (2,511), Kuala Lumpur (2,033) and Perak (1,356).
