IPOH: The water, land and natural resources ministry plans to build more water treatment plants under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025), said its minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar.
He said the plants are expected to completed within the next 10 or 15 years.
Acknowledging that this would entail considerable expenditure, Xavier said places like Kuala Kangsar and Larut often faced water shortage especially during festive seasons.
He said the ministry would also change or repair old water tanks at some settlements in states that do not have enough raw water storage.
He said it was important that in the event of a disruption, raw water supply could accommodate the needs of the community.
“We want to ensure that raw water storage in a particular area exceeds 5% to 6% to meet people’s need compared to the current 2%,” he told reporters after attending a breaking of fast event organised by the Perak PKR here yesterday.
