KUCHING: It was all smiles for 20-year-old Gloria Malong when she was crowned this year’s Sarawak Dayak National Union Kumang Gawai (Gawai beauty queen).
The final year diploma student from Sibu beat 10 other contestants and bagged RM3,000 and a trophy.
“All the effort paid off and I’m grateful to be crowned as this year’s SDNU Kumang Gawai.
“The competition was tough and I did not expect to win,” Gloria said, adding that she hoped to promote the Iban culture among the younger generation.
Claudia Michelle Sena Billy Isang, 21, was runner-up and Lovieana Jin Mili, 19, second runner-up.
The prizes were presented by Loreta Sawot, the wife of State Minister of Utilities Stephen Rundi.
