“The villagers did not create trouble or resort to rioting. So, no arrests were made and no action was taken against the villagers,” Perak police chief Razarudin Husain @ Abd Rasid said.
He said this when asked to comment on two police reports lodged — one by the villagers and the other by a representative of the logging company — in connection with the blockade, adding that the matter had been resolved.
However, police are still monitoring the area as a precautionary measure, Razarudin said.
“We have deployed 50 personnel from the district police headquarters and General Operations Force in Gerik to maintain security there.”
Yesterday, Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the state government allowed authorities to tear down the blockade as it was erected on state land.
Faizal said the enforcement action was taken after the authorities had reviewed the complaints and legal aspects of the case.
