KUCHING:
A PBB assemblyman has hit out at Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, calling them “confused” after they voted with the government on the motion on the amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution at the state legislative assembly on April 30.

Jemoreng assemblyman Juanda Jaya said most of them had disagreed with the decision to amend Article 1(2) but their votes showed otherwise.

“Maybe they were too afraid to be labelled as traitors by Sarawakians who were witnessing the historic event,” he said at the assembly sitting today.

“They were confused, just like when they were confused about where they should be wearing the songkok.

“They didn’t do it in Kuching but were able to do so in Kuala Lumpur. Maybe they’re afraid of Kuala Lumpur.”

The motion, approved unanimously by 47 assemblymen from both sides of the divide, stated that any amendment to Article 1(2) of the constitution must have clear provisions in protecting the rights and safeguards accorded to Sarawak when it agreed to join Malaysia.

Juanda questioned Pakatan Harapan’s contribution to Sarawak despite being the federal government for a year.

“While Sarawak is fighting over the budgets for flood mitigation and blocked drainage system which were withdrawn by Putrajaya, the budget for the high-speed railway and ‘flying cars’ have been approved in Malaya.

“The Sarawak government was able to spend almost RM10 billion for the state’s development projects. What are you all doing in the federal government?”

“As far as I know, they have done nothing but to cancel projects” he said.

Juanda also said that if the federal government was sincere in restoring the status of Sarawak and Sabah, they should return the 40% net revenue owed to Sabah as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
