KUALA LUMPUR:
A Perak state executive councillor has confirmed discussions are ongoing within the state government to replace the Ipoh mayor Zamri Man.

Perak Communications, Multimedia, NGOs and Cooperatives Development Committee chairman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim said among the reasons which led to this decision was due to Zamri’s long absence from office.

“He is unwell and had sought treatment at a private hospital in Ipoh.

“State excos have attempted to visit him but have been unable to meet with him until today.

“We are unsure what is actually happening. We understand it is a mysterious sickness that has yet to be determined,” he said when met by reporters at an Amanah party event today.

Perak Local Government Committee chairman Paul Yong Choo Kiong was reported today as saying that Zamri, who he understood to be unwell, had not been seen for months.

This had resulted in discussions within the Perak state government to replace Zamri as Ipoh mayor.

Yong added according to the law a mayor or council president is eligible to take up to 90 days’ of sick leave.

However, he claimed Zamri has used up all his medical leave.

According to Hasnul, Zamri had previously submitted a medical certificate which allowed him 60 days absence from office.
