Addressing a ceramah at Kuala Sawah in Rantau last night, Lim Guan Eng had hinted that the rail project would go ahead and could be rerouted to Negeri Sembilan. This, he said, would be good for the people.

Mohamad said he left it to EC to decide if Lim’s statement was an offence under the Act.

“The project has been much talked about and ministers have made statements about it.

“Some say it has been cancelled, others say it is being reviewed.

“But to bring it up during the by-election campaign, I feel, is a violation of the election rules,” he told reporters at the BN operations room here today.

Lim had reportedly said the ECRL, linking Pengkalan Kubor in Kelantan to Port Klang in Selangor, would be continued soon if its cost was lowered.

Mohamad asked in jest if the ECRL would go through Rantau.

“Come to Rantau. Why not come to Kuala Sawah … we have a station, the train can stop there,” he said.

Mohamad said the ECRL would cost a substantial amount because the price of land is expensive.

“The cost of land from Gombak to Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang – especially land in the Klang Valley – is high,” he said.

Nevertheless, he said he welcomed any plan to restructure the cost of ECRL as long as it benefits the people.

“We will support what is good for the people. We do not want to be an opposition that does nothing but criticise, like the previous opposition,” he said.
