PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said that Mohd Nor Yassin is not a PAS member but had joined Amanah on March 10, after it was revealed that Mohd Nor had contested the Gemencheh seat in 2013 on a PAS ticket.
Amanah secretary-general Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir said the party’s records show that Nor Yassin was a new member of the party.
However, Amanah’s Negeri Sembilan chief, Zulkefly Mohamad Omar, said Nor Yassin was still a member of PAS.
“He did not submit his forms (to become an Amanah member),” he told FMT. “I am the state chairman. This matter (Nor Yasin being an Amanah member) is not within my knowledge.
“If he is an Amanah member, he has to receive approval from me first. Then I will forward it to the central committee.”
He was adamant that Mohd Nor had nothing to do with Amanah.
Amanah officials are to take steps to expel Mohd Nor for contesting, Mohd Anuar said. All Amanah supporters and members assigned to the by-election have been told to only help PH candidate Dr Streram Sinnasmy.
Streram was disqualified from contesting the seat at last year’s general election, which was won uncontested by former menteri besar Mohamad Hasan.
However the result was overturned in a court challenge by Streram.
Mohd Nor is one of two independents in the by-election, the other being Malar Rajaram.
FMT’s attempts to contact Nor Yassin for comment have failed.
Today is the first day of campaigning.
