The Public Service Department (PSD) said in a statement that the assistance was in line with Budget 2019 tabled on Nov 2 last year, and that it was for pensioners who were receiving pensions of less than RM1,000 a month.

“The government’s concern in implementing a one-off assistance of RM500 is expected to provide comfort and fulfil the needs of pensioners involved,” it said.

PSD said the list of eligible recipients was identified in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure that one-off assistance is paid to eligible pensioners.

It said a thorough vetting process was carried out through various agencies, including the Inland Revenue Board, the Employees Provident Fund, the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia, state treasurers, the Social Security Organisation, the Companies Commission of Malaysia and Road Transport Department.
