Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said his team had information on those responsible, and Bukit Aman and Johor police are working together to bring them into custody.
“The police will carry out a detailed investigation to identify those behind this irresponsible act.
“We have some leads now and we are working hard,” he said at a press conference at the Pasir Gudang indoor stadium today.
Fuzi refused to elaborate as this could interfere in police operations.
He said police had received 76 reports on the pollution of Sungai Kim Kim and the number of reports is expected to increase.
“I hope people will give their cooperation. We have road blocks at nine locations.
“We have also placed three platoons to look after security, ensuring lorries are blocked from entering the disaster zone,” said Fuzi.
As of today, more than 4,000 residents, including students, had sought treatment for various symptoms, including nausea, dizziness and vomiting, due to exposure to the toxic fumes and 111 schools have been closed indefinitely.
