KUALA LUMPUR:
Bukit Aman Special Branch chief Abdul Hamid Bador has taken over as acting deputy inspector-general of police (IGP) following the retirement of Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

Noor Rashid leaves the police force today having completed his extended term as deputy IGP. He was initially supposed to retire on March 17, 2018, but saw his service extended by a year.

Hamid was transferred out from Bukit Aman in 2015 following the 1MDB controversy but returned as Special Branch chief last May.

He reportedly said he had been kept in the dark about his transfer order. He also said he was only told to report to the Prime Minister’s Department, where he oversaw security and transnational issues, on Sept 2, 2015.

When met by reporters after the ceremony for the handover of duties, he said he would address the public at a later date.

“I don’t want to comment now, the time is not right. It’s too early now. I will say something later,” he said.
