
Liew said this is provided for in the Federal Constitution, adding that the attorney-general can dismiss charges against any individual, even if case proceedings are still ongoing.
“The attorney-general has the right and the power to decide. The government will not interfere with the decisions made by the attorney-general,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
He was commenting on the Vietnamese government’s request to free Doan Thi Huong, the Vietnamese woman accused of killing Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Doan, 30, and Indonesia’s Siti Aisyah, along with four others still at large, were charged with murdering Jong Nam at klia2 on Feb 13, 2017.
On Monday, the Shah Alam High Court granted Siti Aisyah a discharge not amounting to an acquittal after two years of detention.
