GEORGE TOWN:
Several NGOs have welcomed an additional hearing this Wednesday (March 6) on the 2030 Penang Structure Plan (PSP) draft after they were left out of the final session last month.

Once ratified, the structure plan will provide guidelines for infrastructural development in the state until 2030.

Rail network, highways and the three reclaimed islands project will feature in the PSP, which is expected to be approved by the state government on March 14.

Penang PLANMalaysia, formerly the Penang Town and Country Planning Department, said the additional hearing was being held after it found that “several NGOs” were absent from the last hearing on Feb 22.

It has given each NGO 10 minutes to give their feedback.

Citizen Awareness Chant Group (CHANT) adviser Yan Lee thanked the state government for the invitation, saying it was “a right step in a new Malaysia”.

Penang Forum steering committee member Khoo Salma Nasution suggested a town hall session so that the feedback could be “participative” in nature, as opposed to a one-to-one exchange as expected.
