Centhra chief executive Azril Mohd Amin said Malaysia should play a role in investigating the root cause of the conflict in Yemen.

He urged Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah to work with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the matter.

“We stand ready to provide the government with all the necessary assistance needed,” he said in a statement today.

Azril, who is a lawyer, raised concern over why no nation had spoken about the findings of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights inquiry into the Yemeni conflict.

“This inquiry makes for grim reading. Various violations of human rights, from attacks affecting civilians to arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, torture and ill-treatment, were recorded by the experts,” he said.

He said a war tribunal should be set up to hold those responsible for the Yemeni crisis.

“The world must send a message that human rights violation would not go unpunished,” he said.

Azril also praised Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for noting the fact that Western superpowers are fanning the flames of conflict by selling billions of dollars of arms to the region.
