Witness K Arumugam told the inquest into fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s death that he saw the FRT truck reversing sideways into the EMRS van, causing the van to spin 180 degrees.
He said the truck then reversed into the taxi he was in.
“I couldn’t see what was happening in front of the truck. I was scared at that time, I did not think of driving off to avoid the large vehicle.
“I stayed in my car and dared not come out for about 20 minutes,” he said in Tamil to a court interpreter.
Arumugam then told conducting officer Zhafran Hamzah he did not see the EMRS doors opening or anyone stepping out from the vehicle.
“My door could not open because it was damaged by the reversing FRT vehicle,” he said.
Arumugam was subsequently helped out of his car by passersby.
Last week, fireman Ahmad Shahril Othman told the inquest he was unaware when Adib went missing from the van during the mob attack.
The inquest will continue on Thursday before Coroner Rofiah Mohamad.
The inquest was called by the government amid conflicting claims on the cause of Adib’s death.
Adib was part of the response team sent from the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station on Nov 27 to attend to the fracas outside the Seafield temple. He died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17.
