
The deputy prime minister said the inflation rate recorded last year, which was significantly lower than the 3.7% recorded in 2017, showed that the measures implemented by the government in the past nine months had begun to show results.
“We want our country to progress and the people to live comfortably with a better quality of life,” Bernama quoted her as saying.
Wan Azizah said the ruling coalition endured many problems after taking over Putrajaya due to the national debt.
At an event on Friday, she said that the measures taken to tame inflation did not affect the country’s economy as it grew by 4.7% during the last quarter of the year.
This showed the success of the policies, strategies and action plans put in place by the government to control the prices of goods, she said.
Wan Azizah, who is also the National Cost of Living Action Council chairman, said Malaysia’s economic growth fared better in the fourth quarter at 4.7% compared with the third quarter (4.4%) and second quarter (4.5%).
