Time to address people’s issues after Camerons defeat, says Muhyiddin

The PPBM leader says the by-election was an opportunity to get feedback on the people's expectations.

ARAU:
Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in the Cameron Highlands by-election yesterday is a reminder for the ruling coalition to fix weaknesses in addressing the people’s problems, said PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said the by-election provided an opportunity for PH to get feedback from the people about their expectations of the government.

“The information we received from the grassroots on issues that bothered them were mainly cost of living, development and so on. We will look into them even though we lost.

“There is much that PH has to take into account, and we have to correct the existing problems,” he told reporters today.

Yesterday, Barisan Nasional retained the seat through Orang Asli candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, who got 12,038 votes, beating PH’s M Manogaran (8,800 votes), and two Independents, Sallehudin Ab Talib (314 votes) and Wong Seng Yee (276 votes).

Muhyiddin, however, said the results did not reflect the overall sentiments nationwide.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said PPBM’s central leadership had taken control of the party’s Perlis chapter to resolve internal problems.

“We have begun the process, and later we will announce the restructuring of the leadership at the state level,” he said.

Perlis PPBM secretary Wan Saiful Wan Jan was sacked from the state leadership line-up, triggering a leadership conflict.
