Praising EC officers for escorting Manogaran out of the polling station, Bersih said police on duty should have stopped the DAP leader from entering in the first place.
“We call for investigations and commensurate actions to be taken by the police and the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Wearing anything with a party logo within 50m of a polling station is an offence under Section 26(1)(g) of the Elections Act.
According to EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun, Manogaran was ordered to leave the polling station at Sekolah Kebangsaan Senderut in Kuala Lipis after he was spotted in the party attire.
Manogaran has since apologised for his action, saying he did not realise he was still wearing the party shirt, which he had been used to wearing during the two-week campaign for the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat.
Saying there had been a series of election law violations during the campaign period, Bersih said it would issue a comprehensive report within a week.
“We would also be making some recommendations on how we can move forward to ensure that future elections are cleaner and fairer,” it added.
The Cameron Highlands by-election is a four-cornered contest among Manogaran of PH, Ramli Mohd Nor of Barisan Nasional and two independents, Wong Seng Yee and Sallehudin Ab Talib.
It is being held following the Election Court’s nullification of the victory of C Sivarraajh of BN in the 14th general election due to vote-buying.
