PETALING JAYA:
Singapore today agreed to Malaysia’s proposal to shorten the mutual suspension of Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Seletar Airport and Restricted Area (RA) over Pasir Gudang to the end of March.

Singapore Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan made this announcement in a Facebook post this evening.

Singapore had earlier requested that the suspension be until May.

“I have accepted Minister Anthony Loke’s counter-proposal to extend our mutual suspension of the Seletar ILS and Pasir Gudang RA to end March 2019,” Khaw said.

“It is a good idea to nudge our officials to follow up speedily on what the two ministers had agreed on the way forward.”

The aviation authorities of the two countries published the new Notice to Airmen (Notam) at 6pm to effect the decision, he said.

“I am happy to see the two regulators working together for the larger good of civil aviation safety and efficiency in our congested air space,” Khaw added.

The two countries are currently locked in a bitter maritime dispute after Malaysia extended the limits of Johor Bahru port, which the Singapore government says amounted to “encroachment into its territorial waters off Tuas”.
