According to US media reports, Ng Tan Kheong died at Lutheran Hospital in Brooklyn from injuries suffered when a man armed with a hammer barged in at the Seafood Buffet restaurant.

He is the second victim killed in the attack, after restaurant chef Fufai Pun, 34. Another man, manager Tsz Mat Pun is still in critical condition.

Ng’s death was confirmed by the Malaysian consulate general’s office in New York.

It is learnt that his body would be brought back to Malaysia.

The incident took place on Jan 15 at around 5.15pm when the eatery was filled with customers.

Witnesses recalled that a man, later identified as Arthur Martunovich, started hitting workers on their heads with a hammer.

The 34-year-old suspect reportedly shouted “bizarre things” as people rushed out of the restaurant amid the commotion.

Martunovich later told police while in custody that a Chinese film in which “men were mistreating women” inspired him to launch the attack.

NBC News reported that Martunovich remained in a psychiatric ward for observation.
