Conducting officer Hamdan Hamzah, who informed coroner Rofiah Mohamad of this during case management today, said six of these would be expert witnesses.
Rofiah fixed hearing dates from Feb 11 to 28, March 1 to 5, March 19 to 29 and April 1 to 12.
The housing and local government ministry and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia have been given permission to observe the proceedings.
The coroner meanwhile will decide on Jan 31 whether the Bar Council and the Sri Maha Mariamman temple task force can participate in the proceedings as interested parties.
A five-member legal team led by Mohd Kamaruzaman A Wahab will hold a watching brief for Adib’s family.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers filed the case documents at the registrar’s office of the Shah Alam court complex last month.
This followed the announcement by Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin that an inquest would be held to determine the cause of death of Adib, who was assaulted during the riots at a temple in Subang Jaya in late November.
Muhyiddin said Attorney-General Tommy Thomas, in his capacity as the public prosecutor, would direct a magistrate to conduct the inquiry under Section 339 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The magistrate conducting the inquest would have wide-ranging powers under Section 328 of the Criminal Procedure Code to determine the cause of death, he added.
The section states that the words “cause of death” include “not only the apparent cause of death, as ascertainable by inspection or post-mortem examination of the body of the deceased, but also all matters necessary to enable an opinion to be formed as to the manner in which the deceased came by his death and as to whether his death resulted in any way from, or was accelerated by, any unlawful act or omission on the part of any other person”.
Adib, 24, was severely injured during the violence at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25. He had been part of the response team sent from the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station early on Nov 27.
He died at the National Heart Institute three weeks later on Dec 17.
