KUALA LUMPUR:
Police will appoint an independent body to conduct a study on the public perception of safety, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said today.

He said that although the country’s crime index kept dropping annually, the public perception of safety was not yet at a satisfactory level.

“I have instructed the R&D Department of the Royal Malaysia Police and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department to identify an independent body to study the level of public perception.

“From the study, we will be able to obtain indicators to raise public confidence and enable us to improve the perception from time to time,” he told a press conference after the monthly assembly for Bukit Aman departments here.

Earlier, in his speech, Fuzi said all the states had recorded a drop in the crime index from the threshold set last year.
