GEORGE TOWN:
A man who slapped and threatened a female cashier at a convenience store in Bayan Lepas near here on Tuesday after he became angry at being unable to buy three packets of cooking oil, was arrested by police today.

Southwest district police chief AA Anbalagan said the 47-year-old man was nabbed along the roadside in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, at 2pm.

“The man, a trader, admitted to verbally abusing and hurting the woman, aged 29, before threatening her because he could not control his anger,” he said today.

Anbalagan said the man would be taken to the Balik Pulau court tomorrow to obtain a remand order to facilitate further investigation into the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and under Section 323 for causing hurt.

In the 8.40am incident, the cashier was approached by a male customer who wanted to purchase some items, including three packets of cooking oil.

The cashier told him that each customer was limited to two packets only. The man became furious and verbally abused her before hitting her head with his hand.

The man left after warning the woman to “watch out”.

Worried for her safety, she made a police report on the incident.

A 16-second video recording of the incident has gone viral on social media since yesterday.
