
He said the situation was serious as at least 30 accidents a day were caused by retreaded tyres, which can explode and cause a chain reaction harming other motorists.
“Based on the statistics given to me, the situation is shocking.
“We are taking this seriously and it all boils down to enforcement. We should not have overweight vehicles on the roads, and secondly, retreaded tyres are not safe.
“We want this to be looked into and enforcement must be taken seriously,” he said at the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) office here today.
Baru said LLM would meet officials from the transport ministry to discuss the matter soon.
