KUALA LUMPUR:
The secretary of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs of the UK, Jeremy Hunt, will make a two-day official visit to Malaysia starting tomorrow.

In a statement last night, the foreign ministry said Hunt would be accompanied by his spouse and officials from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This will be the maiden visit to Malaysia for Hunt, who took up the post on July 9, 2018.

Hunt is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah in Wisma Putra, Putrajaya.

“Both ministers are expected to discuss various issues of mutual interest including Asean, Brexit and regional issues,” the statement said.

It said Hunt is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya and to exchange views on regional and global issues of common concern.

He will also meet Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo to discuss initiatives to strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation in the communications sector.

“The visit is expected to further strengthen the bond of friendship and reflect our long-standing relations with the UK as well as increase cooperation in new areas between the two countries,” the statement said.
