Liew’s lawyer Ramkarpal Singh said the suit was over two articles published on Azwanddin’s Facebook page and the website of Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM).
Azwanddin had on Oct 30 accused Liew of wearing a communist uniform to show his “insolence” in front of Malay soldiers.
In an article published on Nov 19 on the JMM website, Azwanddin said Liew, who was appointed a senator, was a threat to the defence ministry.
Ramkarpal said the suit was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Dec 27, with case management fixed on Jan 29, 2019.
Liew is claiming damages totalling RM20 million and an injunction to stop Azwanddin from publishing similar articles in the future.
On Dec 26, DAP’s Teresa Kok demanded Azwanddin apologise and pay RM30 mil over a claim he made during a gathering in Klang on Christmas Day, where he accused the primary industries minister of having an interest in the land dispute involving a developer and a Hindu temple in Selangor.
Azwanddin was released from remand yesterday, after he was arrested for criminal intimidation, including a threat to attack a police station if the authorities did not arrest minister P Waytha Moorthy, whom he blamed for the death of a fireman who was assaulted during the Sri Maha Mariamman temple violence last month.
