KUANTAN:
The concessionaire for the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1), Anih Berhad, is investigating a fight between staff at the Gambang R&R here and an express bus driver.

A video on the alleged fight has gone viral on social media.

Anih Berhad, in a media statement issued here today, said disciplinary action would be taken against the staff members if found guilty.

“The company does not tolerate such action and is against anyone getting involved in incidents that can undermine the well-being and safety of road users,” it said.

Anih Berhad expressed regret over the incident and gave its assurance on the safety of road users.

The incident is said to have happened at 1.30am yesterday after an altercation between the bus driver and a waiter over offensive language.

Kuantan district police chief Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said they had identified five individuals involved in the incident and they are likely to be detained soon.

“The incident was not racially-motivated as claimed by some quarters.”

The bus driver lodged a police report in Kuala Terengganu, he added. The staff members also lodged a report on the incident.

Police are investigating the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting. This provides for a maximum jail sentence of two years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
