ALOR SETAR:
Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s uncle today said the fireman who died from injuries sustained during a riot at a temple in Subang Jaya should be remembered as a national hero.

Kasim Md Isa, when met at Adib’s home in Kampung Tebengau Tepi Laut, Kuala Kedah here, said the family members were very disappointed with what had happened to Adib.

The 24-year-old fireman was assaulted while attempting to extinguish a fire at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Seafield, USJ 25 on Nov 27.

“We have come to accept the death of one whom we consider a national hero,” Kasim, 61, told reporters.

“I hope those responsible for his death are brought to justice.”

Adib, the second of four siblings, was supposed to get married on Dec 22.

“He took off five days to return home to prepare for the wedding feast before returning to work.

“On his first day back on duty, he was assaulted. We are sad over what has happened,” Kasim said.

Villagers and relatives have filled the house compound since 7am.

Adib died at 9.41pm last night. His remains will be buried at the As-Saadah Mosque Muslim Cemetery, here, after noon prayers.
