In a statement, Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari said some media reports gave the impression that Education Minister Maszlee Malik intended to include the scandal in the syllabus.
Shahrul said Maszlee, in answering a question from Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, only said that the 1MDB scandal would enter Malaysian history.
“The reports quoting Maszlee as saying that the 1MDB case will be included in the history syllabus are inaccurate.
“Whether it is included in the syllabus is up to the education ministry’s curriculum committee.”
Shahrul added that in the interest of enriching intellectual discourse, the education minister had no objection to the 1MDB issue being made into a case study at institutions of higher learning.
This, he said, was because the 1MDB issue had attracted a lot of attention from within and outside the country, especially in the areas of good governance, accountability and a culture of integrity.
Yesterday, Maszlee said the topic of 1MDB would be included in Malaysian history to ensure that such mistakes were not made again.
However, he did not explain if the topic would be included in school textbooks or whether it would be made part of student discussions.
