Temple fracas: Cops probing 4 reports under Sedition Act

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor says the reports claim that seditious news is being spread on social media.

Selangor police warn that stern action will be taken against anyone creating discord among the people over the violent protests at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.
SHAH ALAM:
The police have opened four investigation papers (IP) under the Sedition Act 1948 in connection with the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ25, near here, earlier this week.

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said in a statement that the IPs were opened after four police reports were lodged following the spread of alleged seditious news relating to the incident on social media.

“The police also arrested the administrator of the Papa Gomo blog site, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris at 1pm at the Sepang Police Headquarters,” he said.

Mazlan warned that stern action would be taken against anyone who deliberately tried to create discord among the country’s multiracial society.

“Police reports will be filed and further investigations will be carried out on those involved,” he said.

Violence erupted following a dispute over the relocation of the temple. Cars were torched and fireman Mohd Adib Mohd Kassim was among those assaulted.

Adib, who sustained severe injuries, is currently being treated at the National Heart Institute.

The incident also saw protesters damaging a section of the One City Mall.
