Saying the claims were not true, the Sepanggar MP said police had dispatched its first patrol car to the scene as early as 2.50am.
“After receiving the complete report from the police, I discovered that the claims made were not true. They received their first report at 2.40am. They arrived 10 minutes later.
“As they arrived, I was told that things were thrown at the patrol car and it was blocked. So they called for back up. But when the back up arrived, the situation had escalated. So they called for another back up from the FRU (Federal Reserve Unit).
“Based on the report, the FRU arrived slightly after 3am. So the claims of FRU arriving at 6am is not accurate,” he said at the Parliament lobby.
He was responding to an earlier statement by four Cabinet members who had noted questions over why only a single patrol car from the police force arrived at the scene at 4.15am while the FRU only arrived at 6am.
In a press conference in Parliament, federal ministers M Kulasegaran, Xavier Jayakumar, Gobind Singh Deo, P Waytha Moorthy and deputy minister R Sivarasa also denounced the statement by the Subang Jaya police on the incident as “false and irresponsible”.
They said it was regrettable that the Subang Jaya police had described the incident as a fight between two Indian groups.
The MPs were referring to a press conference by Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor this morning which stated that about 50 Malay men had clashed with a group of Indians, based on initial investigations.
However, a screenshot of a statement made by the Subang Jaya district police on Facebook, posted around 5.40am, stated that two Indian groups were involved in the scuffle.
Checks showed that the word “Indian” has since been removed from the post, which now states that two groups were involved in the scuffle.
Commenting on this, Azis admitted that there was an error in the initial Facebook post but said that it has since been corrected.
Emphasising that the incident had nothing to do with race or religion, he urged all parties to stop issuing statements that could cause racial tension between races.
He said the police should be allowed to do their job, adding that arrests had already been made since.
“What’s important is that police have carried out their duties diligently. This can be seen from the fact that there are no casualties and the situation is under control,” he said.
Asked on numerous allegations on possible parties behind the scuffle, Azis said that investigations were taking place and action would be taken against those responsible.
