JOHOR BAHRU:
The Sultan of Johor today appointed his grandson, Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil Abu Bakar Ibrahim Tunku Ismail, as the Raja Muda of Johor.

Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar proclaimed the appointment at his 60th birthday celebration at Istana Besar.

Born on Oct 10 last year, Tunku Iskandar is the son of the Tunku Mahkota of Johor (TMJ), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

“As we all know, the Tunku Mahkota of Johor was blessed with a son on Oct 10, 2017, and was named Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil Abu Bakar Ibrahim Ibni Tunku Ismail.

“As such, as per the rights and powers set out in Clause 23 First Part and Clause 7(2E) Second Part of the Johor State Constitution, I, as the Ruler, with the Royal Council, have consented to appoint and proclaim Tunku Iskandar ibni Tunku Ismail as the Raja Muda of Johor,” reads the proclamation as disributed to the media by the Johor Royal Press Office.

“Therefore, from now on, Tunku Iskandar Ibni Tunku Ismail is the second heir to the throne of the Johor, the one who follows after the heir apparent.”

At the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim also conferred state awards and medals to 62 individuals, led by Menteri Besar Osman Sapian and State Secretary Azmi Rohani, both of whom received the Datuk title.

Others who received the Datukship are Johor Bahru mayor Amran A. Rahman, Johor Land and Mineral director Mohd Halim Hasbullah, Iskandar Puteri mayor Adib Azhari Daud, Deputy State Secretary (Development) Ramlee A.Rahman, and Sultan of Johor’s ADC, SAC R. Sugumaran.
